With summer in full swing, one of England’s most beautiful counties has been reaping the rewards. Thanks to a record-breaking heatwave, visitors to Surrey have been able to enjoy the goings on in the county in the kind of climate you’d usually associate with the Mediterranean coast – and long may it continue!
There’s still at least six weeks of summer to go, and with the weather shining favourably on the UK and plenty of goings on to attract you to Surrey, now is the perfect time to plan your visit. If you decide to take a trip to Surrey in late July or August, here’s a few events you might want to try…
From July 23-29th, an outdoor cinema will be erected at Raven’s Ait, an island on the River Thames. The cinema opens at 7pm and film screenings begin at 9pm, with classics such as ‘Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘The Godfather’ among the movies set to be shown.
Guildford may be landlocked, but you’ll be forgiven for thinking otherwise should you choose to visit the “Guildford-on-Sea” event at the city’s urban beach between August 16th and 18th. This family-friendly event will feature deck chairs, free face painting, candy floss, beach huts, and plenty to see and enjoy across both event days!
By day, Guildford-on-Sea is fun for all the family, but the Sundown Sessions on August 16th are for over-18s only. The Sundown Sessions will feature a DJ, a barbecue, and a beachside bar for your enjoyment, and you can while away the (hopefully) warm summer evening with a turn at the ping pong tables or by giving beach volleyball a try.
The North Downs Way – one of the most beautiful walking routes in all of Surrey – turns 40 this year, so why not walk a section of the 153-mile route to commemorate this milestone?
Birdworld is celebrating its 50th anniversary with their “50 Days Of Summer” anniversary trail. You can follow the trail around the park every day (July 16th – September 3rd) to learn plenty of fascinating facts about the park, engage with challenges from Ivor the Cockatoo, and just enjoy this stunning part of the world.
London Biggin Hill Airport is hosting a two-day aviation extravaganza on August 18th and 19th, with plenty of fun for the whole family to enjoy. Delight in the Battle of Britain memorial flight on yet another anniversary – 2018 marks 100 years since the RAF was established – and the Red Arrows display team are also set to delight the crowds on both show days.
Beer fans will love the experience of visiting Raven’s Ait. Over 60 different beers will be available to be sampled, and the festival runs from August 24th – 27th.
Head to Guildford (again, if you tried Guildford-on-Sea!) for a fun day the whole family will love! This four-hour event will feature family-friendly entertainment, food options, face painting, inflatables and much more – just remember to take along your suncream if the heatwave is continuing on the event day, August 26th.
Without a doubt, Surrey is the place to be this summer, so why not consider heading to this stunning part of England and visiting one of the events above for yourself?
